Preferences
Your own settings, not the account's. They apply to you, and several apply only on the device you set them on.
Appearance
Trackapt ships several themes, light and dark. Pick one from your preferences; the choice follows you.
The logo changes with the theme, so a dark theme gets the version drawn to sit on a dark surface.
Text size
The slider under the theme stretches every piece of text in the app, each one relative to its own size, from Standard — the size the screens are drawn at — up to Large. Headings stay headings and a caption stays smaller than the paragraph above it; the layout grows with the text rather than the text overflowing it.
It applies as you drag, to the whole app rather than the page you happen to be on, and it is remembered on that device — so a shared gatehouse machine keeps the size the person at it chose, and your own laptop keeps yours. Reset returns to Standard.
Printed pages and PDF or Excel exports ignore it: a document prints at the size it was laid out at, so a larger screen size never repaginates a report or pushes a column off the page.
Card actions
Every card's actions — print, export, refresh, add, remove — can be laid out two ways, and the choice is yours, per device.
Wide is a row of icons, which suits a monitor with room for them. Compact gathers related actions under a few named menus, the way a desktop office suite does, so a header with a dozen actions shows three or four words instead of a dozen glyphs. On a phone or a narrow laptop that is the difference between a header that fits and one that wraps onto three lines.
The menus are named for what you are trying to do, and mean the same thing on every screen:
| Menu | What is under it |
|---|---|
| Export | Anything that writes a file you keep, or sends the figures on: reading-mode preview, Excel, PDF, print, share, add to a report, and a screen's own downloads |
| Import | Anything that reads a file in — and the blank template you fill in before doing so |
| Edit | Changing what is on screen: add, rename, save, remove |
| View | Looking at it differently: refresh, expand, filters |
A screen with actions of its own keeps them under a name that fits it — Survey, Plan, Entry — beside those. The way back and the close button stay as icons in both layouts, so you can always leave without opening anything.
The choice applies as you make it, to every card in the app at once, and it is remembered on that device rather than on your account: a control-room monitor can stay Wide while your phone stays Compact.
Show hidden groups
A per-device toggle on the Tracked Groups page, not in preferences — but it behaves like a preference and is remembered per device.
It reveals groups you have hidden. Hidden groups are still in every total; they are simply not drawn on the groups list and the dashboard.
Your till location
The retail till remembers which location you sell from, on that device. That is why a shared tablet does not ask every shift, and why a different device asks once.
Notifications
Alerts can reach you by in-app chat, push notification, or email, depending on what the rule that raised them was set to send.
A parameter alert can be muted per parameter, if a known condition is generating noise. A balance alert cannot be muted — the mute belongs to a parameter, and a balance is not one.
Your dashboard
Dashboard widgets are yours, and several remember their configuration on your own device. See Widget Studio.
That is why a colleague's dashboard is not the same as yours even when you have identical access, and why a form somebody else deletes leaves a widget on your dashboard telling you it has gone.
Signing out
Sign out at the end of a shift on any shared machine — a till, a gatehouse computer, a workshop tablet. Everything you record is recorded as you.
Never work from a private or incognito window
It matters most at the retail till, which stores sales on the device until the network can carry them away. A private window throws that storage out when it closes.
